NH1 Showroom: Peace Time Anti Aircraft Equipment
The new showroom is located close to the entrance of the museum and was opened for the first time on June 4th 2007. The first stages of the Finnish anti-aircraft system (used in Suomenlinna from 1925 - 1930) can be found in the upper section of the showroom. In addition to the pictures and museum materials, the first machine gun - The Maxim Machine Gun - is also on display. Other guns that are on display are the 20ItK/23 Oe and the 40ItK/15 V. The 76 ItK/14 “Putilov”cannon is also on display in the showroom. It was first used on September 16th 1927 and was the first cannon ever used in Finnish air defence. Anti-aircraft defence became more advanced after 1930 during the Muurila summercamp. Pictures and photographs of the 76 mm Bofors, which was used during the camp, can be found in the showroom. The war-time showroom houses the 76 ItK/28 B cannon. Yet again the anti-aircraft technology improved after the year 1936. This was because of the new modern Vickers m/34 predictor, which can be found on the upper level of the showroom. The missile selection can be found in the lower part of the showroom. A shoulder launched missile is on display (models 78 and 86), as well as a 6 meter long heavy partially opened missile (model 79) which has been used in training. The multimedia terminal contains the entire Petshora missile system, which included several radar devices and around 50 automobiles. The terminal also contains video selections of live missile firings at the Lohtaja military camp. The lower section of the showroom also contains a selection of cannons, fire control radars, predictors, and an AA tank which have all been used in military training after the war. A series of target drones, which were used in firing and training exercises, can be found hanging from the ceiling of the showroom. The history of The Anti-aircraft Artillery Troops can be found in a series of showcases within the showroom. |
